DON’T SETTLE for less 

Dear Neighbor,

My name is Darrin Camilleri, and I have the honor of serving Downriver and Western Wayne County in the Michigan State Senate. My district covers seventeen communities, including my hometown of Brownstown Township and the City of Trenton, where I live today with my wife, Lama. 

Before being elected to the Senate, I was one of the youngest members of the State House, following a career as a teacher. I am the son and grandson of union auto workers, born from a family of immigrants who came to Michigan to pursue their American Dream. And no matter how much has changed since my family moved here, their experience continues to drive me to help build a Michigan where families can realize their dreams.

Throughout my time in the state legislature, I’ve fought for policies to protect workers, build our economy, create jobs, and invest in education. 

I believe in a politics of possibility – which means we don't have to settle for less than what we deserve. Today, it’s easy to be cynical and look at politics as a means to divide us instead of unite us. But in my time serving Michigan, I’ve seen too much good done for people to believe it has to be that way. 

In just the past few years, we’ve protected a woman’s right to choose, secured free breakfast and lunch for all Michigan students, delivered one of the most progressive education budgets in our state’s history, fought to protect and expand voting rights, passed critical protections for Michigan workers, and made significant strides towards protecting our environment.

I have seen firsthand that if we work together, we can build the Michigan we want to see. But we still have a long way to go to realize our potential as a state, and this journey starts with a government that prioritizes working families and understands our communities’ stories of struggle and success.

I’m honored to be your advocate in Lansing.
